SPOTLIGHT

Congratulations to
ED BLOOMER
Paramedic, State Fire
Instructor, Firefighter
25 Years of Service
"Proud to be with
Seville"
1983-2008

I was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army
reserve where I started my paramedic Training in 1982, I joined
Seville in 1983. When I told my father I wanted to join a Volunteer
Fire Dept he said, “Are you crazy? Why do you want to go into places
most normal people are running out of?” Well, that statement has come
true more than I want to count. But, I’m still here. I got my civilian
paramedic training at the Center for Emergency Medicine at the Univ.
of Pittsburgh Campus in 1984. I’ve responded to the fight 427 crash in
1994 and the flight 93 crash sites in Somerset on Sept 11, 2001. I’ve
helped to recover bodies at both sites. I’ve helped use become part of
the Ohio Valley fire defense and it put Seville on the airports
response to Zulu crashes. I’ve worked on Ambulance services throughout
Allegheny County , since 1982. I have been a Dept of health EMT/
paramedic instructor since 1994; I have been a State of Pa. Fire
Academy Instructor since 1996. In 2005 I was part of the firefighter
task forces that responded at FEMA’s request to the hurricane Katrina
disasters. While serving in Louisiana and Mississippi for 3 months and
I went through hurricane Rita when it came ashore. I was a member of
the Federal Disaster Medical Assistance Team called “DMAT” as a
paramedic with “PA-1”. I’ve worked with the Allegheny County Ems
Council and am presently going through their Emergency Service
Leadership Development Program.
I have 3 kids ages 10, 5 and 3 months. I am certified by the national
Pro board as a Firefighter-II, Haz Mat Operations and Fire Service
Instructor-I. I spent 7 years as part of the Allegheny County
Hazardous Material Team which I was trained as a haz mat technician.
